About Dr Edel McAndrew
Dr Edel McAndrew is an internationally experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of clinical practice in Ireland, the UK, Channel Islands and Gibraltar. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents, families, adults, couples and organisations across the NHS, Irish Health Service (HSE), forensic services, independent hospitals and private practice. Her professional experience also includes senior leadership roles and service development in specialist psychological services, including ADHD, neuropsychology and trauma services.
Dr McAndrew holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Surrey), along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (Dublin), a BSc (Hons) in Psychology (Manchester), an MSc in Nutrition (Dublin) and an MBA (OU), giving her a uniquely integrated perspective on mental health, wellbeing, health behaviour and workplace functioning.
She is trained in CBT, DBT, EMDR, trauma-focused approaches, solution-focused therapy, behaviour analysis, family therapy and a broad range of specialist interventions. She has served as an expert witness in Family, Criminal and Civil Courts for over 25 years, frequently as a Single Joint Expert, providing assessments, reports and oral evidence subject to legal and clinical scrutiny.
Her core clinical interests include trauma, PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD and neurodiversity, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, personality and behavioural problems, eating disorders, and complex mental health presentations. She has also worked with refugees, survivors of abuse, accident survivors and individuals experiencing life changes, identity challenges and emotional hardship.
Dr McAndrew has held senior posts as Head of Psychology services in both Ireland and the UK, and has supervised and trained psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, educators and multidisciplinary teams across health and social care. She is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist (BPS), Chartered Scientist (British Science Council), Registered European Psychologist, HCPC-registered practitioner, and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and an Associate member of the Irish Psychological Society of Ireland.
Her approach is compassionate and evidence-based. She brings a deep understanding of the interaction between emotional life, brain functioning, trauma history, family systems, personality, neuropsychology, nutrition, resilience, and human adaptation.
Outside of work, Dr McAndrew enjoys epee fencing, tennis, swimming and walking.
